In most cases when you purchase a home, you have a wired doorbell or wired door chime. To alleviate any confusion, a wired versus a wireless doorbell is only referring to the connection between the pushbutton and the sounding unti, usually the doorbell you see handing in the foyer of a house.
A wired pushbutton uses what is commonly called "bellwire" to connect to a wired doorbell transformer. The transformer is receiving power from your homes electrical supply and the physical wired door chime connect to the transformer. When the pushbutton is activated, an the bellwire sends the signal to the wired doorbell and the tone is stuck!
If you have a wired doorbell, you can extend the sound of that doorbell with a product doorbellsonline markets called an "extend-a-chime." This product has a wireless transformer that connects to the wired doorbell transformer. From there it sends a wireless signal to a receiver you may have in another room.
The wired doorbell is the good old warhorse that still rules when it comes to long lasting and reliable door chime installations.
